Course Overview

The ME-IR is a CASA-approved rating that trains pilots to fly multi-engine aeroplanes under full Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) conditions as part of the Qantas Group Pilot Academy integrated pathway.

Prerequisites

Must meet Academy entry criteria (18 years old at course start, CASA Class 1 medical, selection testing and interview) with progression through integrated training.

Modules & Curriculum

Training covers instrument procedures, IFR navigation, multi-engine systems and controlled flight in instrument conditions — exact syllabi are governed by CASA ME-IR regulatory requirements (not fully detailed on Qantas site).

Assessment Method

Ground theory assessments, internal training checks and CASA-mandated flight and simulator evaluations culminating in meeting instrument and multi-engine proficiency standards.

License/Certification

CASA Multi-Engine Command Instrument Rating (ME IR) — a rating endorsed on the pilot’s licence that permits IFR multi-engine flight.
